Hi!!! I am not, usually, an Italian food fan. This place has made me a convert!! Located on the southeast corner of Willow and Nees in Clovis, this place offers fresh, authentic Italian food. It is no secret that I absolutely love this place but I am a professional and I reviewed this place as I would any other. The only difference is that, since I have been here several times I am going to do an overall review, not just based on my last visit.

Service:

Walking in we are greeted by a friendly hostess and seated right away. The longest wait time I have ever had was about 20 minutes. If seating is available at the bar, take it, the service at the bar is just as great as at a table.

Our server came to our table and introduced themselves right away and we placed our drink order. The order was brought quickly. Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu offered suggestions as to what to have. Very personable and pleasant.

Food:

Once seated you are treated to fresh, hot rolls served with a dipping oil filled with fresh, roasted garlic and basalmic vinegar.

The appetizers are fabulous!! The Gallo chips is wonderful. It is a super thin crust topped with olive oil, fresh ground pepper, garlic, and a small amount of mozzarella. Served with fresh marinara sauce for dipping. The caprese is phenomenal! Super fresh slices of mozzarella cheese layered with fresh beefsteak tomatoes topped with fresh basil and a balsamic drizzle. Forkin delicious. The breaded zucchini comes with one of the best dipping sauces I have ever had. Lemony and creamy it is a must try!

The salads are huge!! I highly recommend the The GG’s greens. Lots of fresh veggies and large enough to share. All salads come with your choice of fresh house made dressings, I recommend the continental house dressing.

If a burger is what you crave, a must have is the Gallo burger. Cooked to order and topped with cheese, thick cut bacon and grilled onion.

The linguini and clams is some of the best I’ve ever had. Lots of clams sautéed in a fabulous white wine sauce and tossed with house made linguini.

Another favorite is the Especial e ala Castroville le. Fresh artichokes, garlic, tomatoes all tossed in wonderful white sauce and served atop fresh pasta.

All entrees come with your choice of soup or salad, included with the meal.

Though you will be stuffed from dinner you must try the deserts!! The lemon cello cake is melt in your mouth forkalicious and of course, there is always room for spumoni!

Price:

The pricing is very reasonable. Especially for what you get. Even the lobster dishes are not over the top in pricing.

Overall:

If you are looking for a fine dining experience without paying the fine dining price…this place is for you. Excellent food, service, and ambiance!!!!

In keeping with my quest to find the best places to eat healthy I knew that I had to include this place. I have great memories of taking my kids here after little league practice, soccer practice etc. Even though the kids are now grown I still enjoy this place as often as I can with my grandson or friends. I hadn’t been in a while but was excited to go. Sadly, the quality of my favorite salad place has declined drastically.

Service:
I was greeted when I walked in by a smiling young woman and I started down the line. The bar itself was clean and the food was fresh. The service at my table was, however, very poor. Not once did any of the bussers come to clear my table, I was forced to stack our dishes on the table next to ours. The biggest negative to the service came when we went to refill our plates. We left the table with the little card that read be ripe back facing the proper way as to let them know we were still there. My cell phone and keys were also on the table. I turned to look back at our table just in time to see a busser set a full tray of dirty dishes on our table. When the busser working with him pointed out my keys and phone and the card the first busser just waved his hand at it and walked away.  I was forkin floored!!! I was furious! We went back to our table gathered our things and headed out the door. On the way out I asked for the manager. I introduced myself and gave him my card. I told him that we had come to review his place and what had happened at the end of our visit. He was full of apologies but it was just too little too late.

No forks to give

Food:
Right out the gate we were disappointed as the main staple, Chinese chicken salad was not available. Super sad to not see that!!! The rest of the salad bar was great as always. Very fresh and delicious. The soup bar was another story all together. We tried several of the soups and while the chicken noodle was ok the clam chowder was very cold and the potatoes were very undercooked. The French onion, while nice and hot, was a huge disappointment. Very little flavor.
Also on the menu were lemon caper pasta and herb rice pilaf as well as the main staple, mac and cheese. The lemon caper pasta was really awful. Way too many capers that completely overpowered any other flavors in the dish. The rice was very bland and undercooked. The baked potatoes were good and hot with many choices for toppings and the herb focaccia bread was very good. I would love to tell you about our dessert choices but as I stated above…we left without eating them.

Pricing:
While the prices are a bit high you can go online thru your phone and get great coupons for family deals as well as one person deals.

Overall:
As I said above this was a favorite place for myself and my kids thru the years. Sadly, it has fallen under poor management and not kept up in the quality department. While the salad bar itself is still very good the choice to get rid of the Chinese chicken salad is a poor one. I hope to try it again and find that things have been stepped up but for now…huge forkin disappointment.

In my search for the best places to eat healthy I came across this wonderful find at Cedar & Herndon!! Yes, John’s Incredible Pizza Co. has pizza, pasta, bread sticks and yummy deserts but the bonus is that they have one of the best salad bars in town!!

Service:

This place is basically self-serve. But the staff is very attentive and our table was kept clean and clear of empty plates. The staff refilling the salad/pizza bar kept the bar clean and well stocked.

Food:
As this is healthy eating month I hit the salad bar. This was quite possibly the best salad bar I have been to. It starts off with your choice of two kinds of fresh greens and moves on to an impressive selection of veggies and toppings. The dressings are house made and very good. My little tip…the bacon bits at the salad portion of the bar are imitation but the bacon at the potato bar is fresh and delicious. Treat yourself to a breadstick as they are worth the extra sit ups lol!

The pasta bar had several selections of pasta and sauce as well as fresh parm for toppings. There is also a potato bar with all the fixings for a forkin yummy baked potato. In addition to all this there are two choices of soup to warm yer belly.

The pizza bar was a bit of a disappointment. While the pizza was hot and looked delicious it did not deliver in the taste department. Very bland and the sauce was way too sweet. Not worth the cheat is your watching your weight.

The desert bar was just ok. The treats offered were not house made and did not look appealing at all. The soft serve ice cream was good, but it’s pretty hard to fork up soft serve.

3 1/2 forks for Food

Price:

The price is very reasonable for what is available. Even if you go for just the salad bar it is still a great deal. Under $15 for all you can eat salad and drink.

Overall:

So, who would’ve thought that the best salad bar in town is in a pizza playland?! But it’s true. So, my overall rating is twofold. While the salad bar gets a huge forks up the pizza is just so so .

Salad bar – 5 forks

Rest of the place – 2 ½ forks
